The Cutting Edge: Winter is STILL coming

I know most people are excited to get out to the beaches and put away their parkas, but first, we need to finish the semester, and also get through spring.

The first thing I noticed this weekend as I arrived at Bucks to finish some work was the fact that the melting snow had created a small river down the pathways of the college.  Then I noticed in the Rollins Center had its own waterfall coming from the ceiling.

I feel as if this leak at Bucks is a microcosm of what is to be expected in the next few months.  With the end of a very icy and snowy winter comes a melt-y spring.  Prepare for flooding and water damage.

This winter may have made us stronger as a whole, though.  Nobody will complain in future winters if we have less than 12 inches of snow the whole year.

I’ll never forget the past few winters we’ve had, where people complained about there not being enough snow.  I doubt we’ll hear these complaints for at least a few more winters.  Especially because this winter isn’t over yet.

That’s right, brace for more.  Accuweather and a few other sources are predicting that this week is going to bring us more cold weather and possibly snow.  Better stock up on eggs, milk and bread: We can’t live without french toast in this kind of weather.

Older generations that are too old to shovel or have enough money to pay someone else to do it have been watching this winter from the sidelines, but it still hits them at home when the power goes out, and when they hire the healthy and hale youngsters (like us) to throw our backs out shoveling snow for them.

My final thought is that enough is enough Old Man Winter.  The last couple of snowfalls left thousands without power and left our roads looking like warzones.  I’m ready for spring, but winter is (still) coming.
