A Survival Guide: Being Single on Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching anxiety begins to build as last minute shoppers are deciding on what box of chocolates to get their significant other. But what’s in it for those who don’t have a significant other?  A night spent alone eating a pint of Ben and Jerry’s?

“I think it’s a lame excuse to spend money on a girl said Jake Wilson, 21, a business major from Yardley. If you like a girl, you wouldn’t wait until Valentine’s Day to take care of her. To me it’s just another day being single.”

Singles have no fear; it doesn’t matter what your relationship status is on Feb. 14. What matters most is how they spend it.

By following these tips, single men and women alike will be able to conquer the most dreaded holiday of the year.

1. Plan a guy’s/girl’s night out. Whether it’s a night with the bros kicking back a few beers or an evening out on the town with the girls, spend the day with fellow friends who are also single. Hanging with single friends is a guaranteed way to avoid mushy love talk.

2. Treat Yourself. Being single on Valentine’s Day isn’t so bad after all! It’s a great excuse to be selfish. If you’ve been eyeing those pair of stiletto heels or new rims for your car, now is the time to buy them.

“I plan on shopping Amanda Leger, a 19-year-old communications major from Richboro said. Retail therapy never hurt anyone.”

3. Enjoy some take out. Considering most restaurants in the Bucks County area will be packed with couples, be lazy and order take out! If you’ve been meaning to try out a restaurant but haven’t gotten around to doing it do it on Valentine’s day. You will avoid the crowds and even may come across a Valentine’s Day special!

4. Relaxation. Who ever said pampering is only for women? Guys need some TLC too. Whether it is a relaxing massage, mani or pedi single men and women are entitled to some relaxation. After all being single is not as easy as it looks!

5. Get rid of those Holiday Gift Cards. We all have experienced the annoyance of having a gift card. And after months of sitting at the bottom of your purse or lost somewhere in your car, Valentine’s Day is the day to use them.

Whether you are madly in love or a lonely single here in Bucks County, everyone can enjoy Valentine’s Day. It is a day for lovebirds to appreciate one another and for singles to be celebrating their independence. Whatever the case may be, make the best of it and maybe you will find that lucky someone on the most lovable day of the year!
