Students from all walks of life have many reasons to consider Bucks; whether to begin their college career or to aid their path in a new professional direction.

When students right out of high school begin to consider their options for continuing their education, some students overlook community college in search of the independence that a four-year program could provide them.

“Bucks prepared me for the workload I am receiving at Drexel, which my high school did not,” said Former Bucks liberal arts student Carly Pogachefsky, 19

Pogachefsky believes that she would not have been able to handle a four-year college work load right out of high school.

Bucks benefits students by boosting their confidence when they are unsure of the workload associated with a four-year program. “Bucks is a great school to prepare students for a four-year university,” Pogachefsky said.

Unfortunately for students who are set on beginning their college careers at a four-year university, the freedom of being on their own tends to be under researched. The responsibility that college level courses require may become a secondhand concern which can lead to indecisiveness of a major.

Recent research showed that as many as 50 percent of college students will change their major before graduation, according to a study by Penn State University.

Students considering universities should weigh the cost difference of a semester at a four-year program compared to the cost of a semester at Bucks. Now multiply that number by two, three or maybe even six, disregarding the fact that many students decide to change their major several times during their college careers.

The cost of a four-year university is significantly higher than Bucks’ tuition; therefore students may want to take more time in their consideration of which college to attend.

Even though Bucks is great for indecisive students, it also acts as a stepping stone for those who may have doubted their decision to begin their college career with a four-year program. When transitioning from one school to another, Bucks can be a bridge between a student’s current state and final destination.

Noelle Beyer, 19, a business administration major decided that she could benefit from studying at Bucks after returning home after a short period at Lock Haven University.

“I came to Bucks because I didn’t like being so far from home,” said Beyer who felt that Lock Haven wasn’t the right college for her.

Beyer is one of the many college students who have preferred to ease their way into their college experience instead of making the jump to a four-year school.

The amount of opportunities that Bucks supplies for students is unlimited. Students who are uncertain of their future college career should be assured that Bucks is a good decision which will provide future, past, and present students with tools for success.
