The Lions Club International has officially arrived here at Bucks County Community College.

With Hurricane Harvey having displaced many Americans from their homes and communities, the Lions club is planning to help.

Earlier this semester, Lions quickly sprung into action and started their semester by hosting a fundraiser for Harvey.

In the duration of two days, they have raised over $150 so far.

“It was a tremendous event especially for our first semester and first week of the Lions’ Club, we’re really trying to get our name out there,” said President Sebastian Avila, 20, a Communications major from Southampton.

This is the first event for the Bucks County Community College Lions Club.

As a self-serving organization that helps out on local, nationwide, and international levels, the goal is to help communities who are in need of supplies and donations alongside providing necessary services.

About 100 years ago, the Lions’ Club International began commencing their goals of creating, promoting, and encouraging the use of community service.

Harvey, along with Hurricane Irma have caused massive damages and will need assistance in restoring the distressed communities back to their original state.

Today, over 1.35 million members in over 200 countries are making a difference by pledging their time and effort towards improving their communities.

“I think it’s a wonderful way for me to be in touch with the Bucks Community area.” said Bucks student Noman Sayed, 20, a Social Science major from Bensalem.

The Bucks County Community College Lions are set to help out in some of those services such as engaging in the Special Olympics, an Olympic-type competition for children and adult athletes with disabilities taking place in November.

During the two days of Clubapalooza, the Lions’ Club: participated, won, and broke the record in the club competition bringing 165 members to the Career Services table.

“We want to stabilize as a level a club, receive academic recognition, and help out the Bucks County Community.” said Avila.

The Lions’ Club International in particular is still currently taking any non-perishable food, clothing, building materials, toys, and furniture as well as money.

The next upcoming event that the Lions’ Club is planning is their Halloween fundraiser.

The Halloween fundraiser will take place on October 30th, where there will be Halloween movies played, provided snacks, and contests run to help raise funds for the first time Lions at Bucks.

Other events that are scheduled to occur later this semester are the ‘Lions’ Charter Day’, a 5k run, a food drive, and a banquet dinner.

Not only is this open to the students, but as well as faculty members, residents of Bucks County, and other fellow Lions who can come out and participate in all of these events.

Various donations from multiple organizations have set forth a beginning path to find missing people, discarding and repairing, and delivering supplies.

As the Lions’ have already joined forces for Harvey, they will be also be doing the same for Hurricane Irma and Jose.

Another hurricane drive will take place in the next couple of weeks for those affected.
