The Drama club at Bucks is seeking new members for this season’s upcoming events, plus shows that have been carefully selected and voted for by already existing members.
This semester’s performance will entail Neil Simon’s play, “Rumors”, which can best be described as a farce comedy depicting the cover-up of an attempted suicide.
For those more interested in one acts, there will be two this year which are titled “Variations on a Theme” and “Check Please!”
Aspiring actors and actresses can audition for these productions on Sept. 26 at 3 to 5 pm and on the 27 at 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the Bucks Zlock Performing Arts Center.
Two contrasting monologues, and a resume with a preferred headshot will be needed for the interview.
Gia Folino, a music major from Bensalem and acting president of the drama club, gave advice to the potential cast about auditions, “Don’t be nervous! Our club is very accepting and everyone is at different levels.”
For those who love to work set building, sound and light as well as costumes and makeup, you will need to provide your name and contact information at auditions.
There will be three performances held for Simon’s “Rumors,” which will be on Nov 15, 16 and 17 – one performed each day.
The price to watch “Rumors” will be $10 for students and $12 for anyone else.
Francesca Arco, a math major from Morrisville who has been in the drama club since last year explained, “doing the drama club here at Bucks gets you more comfortable with the theatre setting such as memorizing lines and understanding what it feels like to be on stage. The experiences that come from the club help prepare you for bigger shows.”
Arco added, “we need all types of new people to join, and once you are a part of the drama club, you will find that it is very easy to open up.”
Tori Sibre, an early education major from Hulmeville, stated, “it’s a great club, since it is so relaxed with prior commitments like work and school.”
Future charity work for the club will feature a showcase in October for all talent ranging from the art of juggling to well-practiced monologues and scenes.
The specific organization or institution to which the proceeds will go to is still in the air, with Hurricane Harvey relief as one of the options considered.
However, the minimum amount for a ticket is a grand total of $1.
Gia Folino encourages viewers to be generous with their donations but any amount given will be highly appreciated.
