The line has been crossed, it’s time to choose a side in our “Injustice: Gods Among Us” review

Everyone’s favorite DC heroes and villain are back together for another brawl but this time the line has been crossed.

NetherRealm is back with another fantastic game to add to its collection. Ever since the Announcement of Injustice there were many questions surrounding the community such as, will it be just like Mortal Kombat 9 just with DC characters? Or will it just be a disappointment like Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe? Rest assures everyone Injustice: Gods Among Us is a complete different game. In a good way

Injustice tells a fantastic story mode that DC fans and NetherRealm’s fans will enjoy. In the opening cinematic Metropolis is destroyed by The Joker and he also tricked Superman into killing his love Lois Lane and their unborn child. This causes Superman to go on a dark path by killing The Joker and creating a new world where he is the leader. Superman new Justice League is called the Regime mixed with heroes and villains that will kill anyone that stands in their way and there’s Batman’s Resistance called the Insurgency.

Everyone is forced to choose a side to choose. The story is similar to that of the Justice Lords but a bit more darker.

Now let’s get into the game play. For starters the tutorial is okay. I feel that it could’ve done better. New comers might have some struggle but they’ll get the hang of it. The game play is different from Mortal Kombat. It feels completely new. For starters there is no right punch, left punch, right kick and left kick. The button layout is now light attack, medium attack, hard attack and power button. There is also no block button. To block players have to hold the back button. Players have the option to change the movement to do special moves like Street Fighters quarter circle or half circle.

Another major difference is that there is only one round. Characters have 2 health bars similar to that of Killer Instinct and Darkstalkers 3.  There are a lot more juggles and wall bounces as well to land heavy combos.

Every character in Injustice each has a special power they can perform by pressing the power button only at certain times. Flash for example has the ability to slow down time making it easier for him to land a combo. Every special power is unique in its own special way in Injustice.

The meter bar has returned but it’s different from Mortal Kombat. Meter is split into 4 little bars players can gain little meter when landing a hit on their opponent but they gain more when their opponent is hitting on them. Certain special moves can be enhanced by a cost of one bar.

Now there is no combo breaker in this game but there is the clash system. The clash system is a bit of a gamble. It only occurs once when a player has one bar of health.  This happens when a player is being attacked they can activate it. Once they activate it they are the defender against the attacker. If the defender wins they can regain some health but if the attacker wins they’ll do some big damage to the defender. But to win the clash players need to wage more meters then their opponent. It makes players think about saving their meter for this emergency situation.

What makes Injustice different from any fighting game are the environments. Characters are either gadget or power types. Gadget type characters can’t lift heavy objects but can bounce off them. It’s a great tactic to get away from corners. Power characters can throw heavy objects at their opponents. Players can also knock their opponent to different parts of the stage. The stage hazards are actually really fun. It makes the battle more realistic. In a fight Superheroes use the environment around them. But if players don’t like the hazards they have the option of turning them off so players don’t have to feel cheated.

The S.T.A.R. Labs is the new challenge tower. Players play as certain characters complete different types of missions which can be fun and frustrating at the same time, but it gives players a break from just one-on-one fighting.

The presentation for this game is beautiful. I feel that this game will bring not only Mortal Kombat fans together but also people that love DC Comics and also Street Fighter players and Marvel players will enjoy this. I can see that there is going to be some huge competition for Injustice. Another thing that I love about this game is that there are familiar voice actors such as George Newbern playing Superman, Susan Eisenberg playing Wonder Woman, Khary Payton as Cyborg and you have Kevin Conroy playing Batman. So what else can you ask for? .If you love fighting games definitely pick up Injustice: Gods Among Us.
