The binge worthy series “Yellowstone” smoothly bends definitive Western spirit while bringing along a modern storyline, making it a compelling series to watch. The drama gained a cult following over the years of its release, when the Actors Strike left fans yearning for more.
The first half of season five was released on Nov. 13 2022, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats until the second half will be released this coming November.
The midseason finale, after eight episodes, portrayed the Dutton family and their future in danger from internal tensions. The original release date of the second half of the season was slated for 2023, but was delayed with the writing and actors’ strike.
“Yellowstone” stars Oscar and Emmy winner Kevin Costner, following his complicated life as a Montanan rancher. Behind the scenes, tension was on the rise as Costner announced that he will be leaving the series to focus on other productions. In an Instagram post, Costner reminded fans that the character of John Dutton in Yellowstone will always have a special place in his heart. He said “it was something that really changed me.”
The creator of the show Taylor Sheridan and the Paramount Network considered this two-year break to be favorable, leaving viewers with a heightened sense of anticipation to see the end.
Paramount made public that the show would continue with or without Kevin Costner, but recently announced that Yellowstone will be ending after five seasons. The rest of the Yellowstone cast has been exceptionally quiet about Costner’s exit.
Actor Luke Grimes, Costner’s son on the show, released some concerns that the behind-the-scenes tension may have brought the series to an end. In an interview with The Independent, he said, “Whatever happened there is unfortunate if it is changed anything about how the show was going to unfold … at the certain point, you gotta do what you gotta do, man. You gotta do what you love.”
Dedicated fans of the series are disappointed with the announcement of the end of “Yellowstone,” but some of them also see potential in the Yellowstone spinoff ‘6666’.
Sheridan announced that there would be multiple spinoffs of the show following its finale, and “6666” will be his biggest focus. There is no premiere date released for the new show, but there are hopes for its release at the end of 2024.
