A Yankee fan among Phillies fans

New York, the city that never
sleeps. That’s where I was born,
right in Manhattan, the heart of
the city. From day one, I have
been a Yankees fan, just like my
father. However, I am no longer in
New York, the land of the Yankees.
For the past 11 years I have
been living in Phillies land, and
Yankees fans are scarce.
Being a Yankees fan has always
been great but being a lone Yankee
in sea of Phillies fanatics has
its drawbacks. For one, Phillies
fans have always had a lot of hatred
and jealousy toward me, as a
Yankees fan. God forbid I walk
into a bar with a Yankees hat on, I
get at least three ignorant comments
every time.
Yankees fans do not pester or
harass fans from other teams because
we are theYankees, the best
baseball team of all time. We are
not threatened by other teams so
we do not feel the need to badmouth
them.We have proved time
and time again that we are champions,
so we hold our heads high
with Yankee pride.
I wish I could say this sensible
attitude existed everywhere but
that is not the case. I was recently
at aYankees vs. Phillies game and
a young kid behind me screamed
“hit Jeter in the head.” I could not
help but turn to his parents and
question the values they were
teaching their child.
In the end it is only a game and
that is an important lesson to teach
young, impressionable children.
The bottom line is that no matter
who comes out on top these are
the two best teams in baseball, and
that is something for both sides to
be proud of.
I do not that I think I am superior
to the Phillies fans that heckle
me, but I do think that Yankees
fans have more class when it
comes to bragging. You are much
more likely to hear a derogatory
chant about the Yankees at the
Phillies’ ball park than you are to
hear a similar chant about the
Phillies at the Yankees’ ball park.
Time and time again we have
won, not because our players have
highs salaries but because they
work hard and fight for each victory.
After 26 World Series championships
for the Yankees, the only
reason I can come up with for the
Phillies hatred toward us is fear.
Fear of the inevitable, win number
27.
