First Fall Games For Eagles, Phillies, Flyers End With Mixed Results For Philadelphians

Eagles

With three games in the books, the Eagles find themselves at a respectable 2-1 record, with their only loss coming against the still undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.

Although the Eagles lost to the Chiefs, they put themselves in a position to win the game by tying the score at 13 with a little under 12 minutes left in regulation.

Only a few ill-timed mistakes cost them the chance to take down and finish the Chiefs, who are now one of only two teams that still remain undefeated.

Last week, the Eagles were involved in a thriller game against the division rival New York Giants.

The game came down to the last few seconds as Eagles rookie kicker, Jake Elliot, whom the Eagles signed after former kicker, Caleb Sturgis, went down with an injury, knocked through a franchise record 61-yard field goal to win the game.

But the news wasn’t all good for the Eagles, as running back Darren Sproles broke his arm and tore his ACL in the same play against the Giants, losing him for the remainder of the season.

Without Sproles in the backfield, the Eagles will look to the rest of their backfield to carry the load.

Free agent Lagarrette Blount and second year running back Wendell Smallwood are expected to be more active in the offense in Sproles’ absence, with undrafted free agent Cory Clement also looking to make a name for himself.

As the first quarter of the NFL season comes to a close, the Eagles take on the winless Los Angeles Chargers in what should be easy matchup for the Birds.

The Eagles are currently in a 3-way tie for the lead in the NFC East and a win over the Chargers would bring them a step closer to a division title, something they have not done since the 2013 season.

Phillies

As the baseball season comes to a close, rookie phenomenon Rhys Hoskins continues to prove that he belongs.

The first basemen turned left-fielder has brought a renewed sense of hope and enjoyment to Phillies fans with his quality at bats and raw power.

After a near sweep of the L.A. Dodgers, the Phillies looked to continue their quality play against the Nationals, to whom they have lost four of their last five games against.

Catcher Cameron Rupp doubled deep to center in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead and the Phillies never looked back. Adding a security run in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Phillies held on to win with a score of 4-1,

With 4 games remaining on their schedule, they look to end the season on a high note as they take on the New York Mets in a 3-game series at Citizens Bank Park.

Flyers

The Flyers come into this season with high hopes to make a playoff run, despite an underwhelming start to the preseason that saw five of their first six games go into overtime, while only winning two.

In a win against the Rangers, center Claude Giroux attributed two assists while Lindblom, Laughton, Morin, and Koneceny all tallied a goal to seal a 4-3 win.

With two more games remaining in their preseason schedule, the Flyers look to take down the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders and head into the regular season with momentum, something they have not been able to do in years passed.

That would be the first step in trying to prepare themselves to take down the San Jose Sharks in the first game of the regular season on Oct. 4.
