After a turbulent season and a disappointing exit in the playoffs, Eagles fans express their frustrations and demand change from the franchise

With the end of the NFL season and the Eagles’ early exit in the wildcard, a lot of fans are experiencing conflicting emotions, especially coming off the blowout Super Bowl victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.

On the heels of a standout Super Bowl victory, the Philadelphia Eagles’ team and fanbase had high hopes for the following season.

These hopes were met with typical Philly disappointment and confusion after tough and hard-fought wins, odd losses, and frustrating playcalling.

Especially when it came to the playcalling of this season’s offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo, who focused on a hard run game and long yardage throws, or at the least attempts at them.

More often than not, these runs, made by Saquon Barkley, were more or less promptly stopped by opposing defense, and the deep ball attempts to AJ Brown were mainly stopped by the opposing team’s safeties and cornerbacks, or worse, dropped.

All of this culminated in the first round of the NFL playoffs, the Wild Card games. In the Eagles’ game against the 49ers, the Birds lost 23-19.

When speaking to Eagles fans, many spoke of changes that needed to be made, whether it was playcalling or the roster itself.

Many Eagles fans said they weren’t surprised at the team’s loss, as they are used to the team letting them down.

Owen Joynt, sports management major, 19, from Feasterville-Trevose, who has been a fan since birth, said, “I was definitely not totally shocked… a lot of the players didn’t play to their normal standards… that ultimately led to the demise of the team and just the entire offensive scheming.”

After asking more fans what the Birds must do in the offseason to change, many of them brought up a change in offense and a general attitude towards needing to be as good as they used to be in previous years.

Nick Bobst, engineering major, 19, from Langhorne, says, “I think in the off-season they should probably strategize more on the offense because our defense is pretty solid.”

Looking toward the future of the franchise, students were asked how they felt about next season when it comes to the Eagles. Many fans want to take the optimistic route, but reality is pulling on their heartstrings differently.

David Bingert, pastry major, 20, from Bensalem, says, “A part of me wants to say I’m confident, but to be honest, I don’t really feel that much. I don’t feel as confident as I should about the Eagles simply because of the fact that they did so well in the regular season, and then take a c*** in the postseason.”

This feeling of repeated pre-disappointment due to constant failed expectations has been a consistent feeling amongst the Eagles’ fan base.

The takeaway? the offense of the Eagles must be fixed.

It seems like the Eagles also believe this as they have finally fired Kevin Patullo, and brought in Packers QB coach, Sean Mannion, as their new Offensive Coordinator.

Mannion doesn’t have much of a resume since he’s fairly, only being 33, but he brings a needed breath of fresh air and a reset for an offense that’s been purely relying on talent for the past couple years

With all of this uncertainty it is easy to jump ship, lose hope, and give up. But if you do that, you’re not a true Eagles fan, you’re a bandwagon.

When it comes to the uncertain future of the Philadelphia Eagles, the only thing that remains consistent is the fans.
