The season is coming to an end for The Centurion Men’s Basketball, we look towards the team’s past to inform its future. With only a few games left in the season, Centurion Basketball has been experiencing some minor setbacks. The team holding strong defensively, however the teams’ communications on offence could improve.
Leading scorer Mike Roccograndi averaging a total of almost 15 points per game, and Jayden Bright with a 39% shooting average from the three-point line. These two are playing a key role in guiding the team better offensively.
On February 10th, opportunity approached to have an interview with some core players post victory. Faced off against the Williamson College of the Trades Mechanics, who came from Media. With an overall score of 99 to 79.
Being able to talk to two players and to see how they felt about this particular win and what it means for the rest of the season. Are they optimistic…feeling worried?
Starting off speaking to 19-year-old from Bensalem Noah Morris, the team’s starting guard for this game, who’s rocking the number 2 jersey on the court. He’s on his second year with the Centurions, being able to shed a little bit more insight than others
When asked how he felt about the win in general, Morris stated “It’s a great conference win, Williamson always plays hard, they play together, and it’s great to come out with a win.”
The next questioned asked was about how a win like this and a record as it is, how does the moral stay strong and what keeps the team motivated? Noah then said to me, “Our teammates, the culture we have, we love playing with each other, and we love bringing energy to practice. Coach Farrad does a great job at practice, keeping us energized. And this is a testament to all the hard work we put in, and we want it to pay off, and we just keep pushing every game.”
This sentiment was shared with the game’s other starting guard, Niko Bianco, the 23-year-old from North Wales. As stated to Noah the same question was prompted on how he felt about the game.
He said, “It’s a good bounce back for the year to end strong, we got two more games coming up, both winnable games…I think we’ll end the year pretty strong.”
Following that he was then asked about the culture surrounding the team, as well as how a win and a record like this felt, and what keeps them going. Niko had this to say, “Yeah, we’re all friends here, we all get along, everybody talking at practice, good group of people, and a lot of cool guys.”
When asked about the game plan for the upcoming games, he quoted, “Probably going to be the same thing, hustle, rebounds, transitions, and smart plays.”
The teammates and coaches’ chemistry is what’s holding the team together, they are like a family that continues to improve on there loses as a team and build on them.
Looking ahead, the Men’s Centurion Basketball Team has the ability to come out of this season with there heads up, winning or losing they’ll do it as a team, yet another reason to be proud of our college
