Wounded Warrior giving back

Some students attend Bucks with the intention of just being able to get by. They come to class day in, day out, do the bare minimum for their passing grades, and then go home. Robert Talbot, 28 year old secondary education major is not one of these people.

Talbot has taken it upon himself for the past few months, and for months to come, to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Foundation, a non-profit organization that exists to raise money for people whom have been injured in the military.

Having been injured himself as a Marine at one point in time, Talbot only wants to give back to society and his brethren in the military. Thus far Talbot has raised just shy of $5,000, and he isn’t keeping a single cent of it.

Talbot is quite selfless despite his rough demeanor, having been in the military for years; “We love Rob!” Exclaims Carol Brandt, one of the hard-working members of the Student Life Department.

Claiming that it would be “wrong and selfish”, Talbot refused the opportunity for a solo picture with all the regalia of his fundraiser. He simply believed that it would be wrong to not include the other members of the Veteran’s Club at Bucks. Talbot assures that they have been instrumental in the completion of this fundraiser, and he cares about them more than the fundraiser itself.

This is surprising and very generous, as his fundraiser is one of the top-grossing fundraisers to ever have been held at Bucks. Though, according to the Student Life department, this information is difficult to get a hold of.

“It’s a great opportunity to give back and work with Rob,” says Kyle Hofstaedter, The Client Development Executive for the Philadelphia Flyers. Robert has been working closely with Hofstaedter, a focused man who has the well-being of the Flyers as his top priority.

He continues “I love what he’s doing with Wounded Warrior, it hits hard at home for me, because my dad was injured in Vietnam.” He seemed very excited to see how this fundraiser will develop in the future.

The Flyers’ season ends in April, but this isn’t going to stop him. According to Talbot, he has the 76’ers “on board” with his fundraiser, and he will be opening doors for them at Wells Fargo for their season as well.

On 27 February at 4 p.m. Talbot will be at Xfinity Live in the Wells Fargo Stadium, fundraising at the bar there for money. He has been auctioning off many things, such as hockey pucks and sticks with signatures on them.

His next addition to the auction will be a jacket signed by the entire Flyers’ team.

Aside from that, he will be raising funds at the amateur wrestling meet taking place next week at the YMCA on Levittown Parkway, which gives him an opportunity to work with youth as well as college students.

In the end, the Wounded Warrior project is benefitting greatly from Rob’s hard work. It will be interesting to see what he does in the future to help this cause, during the summer and later this year.
