Attention all Bucks County aspiring writers. Are you interested in creative writing? Getting your writing seen? Or earning a reward? Look no further Bucks County Community college is hosting their annual contest for the 2024 Short Fiction Contest.
This contest is run and organized by Bucks English Professor, Elizabeth Luciano, who has been a part of this college for 20 years now. What sparked her interest in starting a fiction contest was the poetry contest held here on campus. This idea came to mind in 2016 and ever since then became a hit to Bucks students and active members of the Bucks County community.
This contest is open to people over the age of 18. Luciano encourages anyone to participate. “Writing can be a lonely enterprise, writing can give you a community,” Luciano stated.
Many are encouraged to share their perspectives of fiction through this contest. Luciano loves reading stories, is interested in seeing what people can articulate and enjoys seeing local writer’s work.
Prizes are also awarded to the top three winners of this contest. First place will win a $200 gift card, second place will win a $100 gift card, third place will win a $50 gift card, and there will also be honorable mentions. As well as winning a prize, we can share their work at a reading in November.
Some advice Luciano would like to give to aspiring writers is, “Write thoughtfully, make sure your story is clear, and make sure the writer is clear. Clarity is key or you could lose the reader.”
Submissions are taken on the Bucks website and must be in by Oct. 10 at noon for consideration in the contest. Stories must be original, unpublished works and can be up to fifteen pages. Further entry rules, requirements and proper contact information can be found on the Bucks website.
