On Oct. 4, a student found a bomb threat in the women’s bathroom in the Gateway Center.
The Newtown police were notified and responded along with a Newtown fire official. After reviewing the note, they decided that, due to the vague nature of the note, closing the campus was unnecessary.
“There are certain things you look for,” said Chris Lloyd, Director of Security and Safety. “This didn’t meet the parameters.”
Officials prefer not to disclose what the note said specifically. “We don’t want a copycat,” said Lloyd. They are afraid that if everyone knew what the cause for alarm was, there might be students who want to get out of a test, or simply put everyone in a panic, who would do something similar.
It is still an ongoing investigation for who left the note, and why. They are following up on leads from various sources, as they were encouraged to by the Newtown police. The note was submitted for fingerprinting.
All employees and students are encouraged to remain alert, however. Any suspicious unattended bags or packages should be reported immediately to Security and Safety for investigation. “Always keep an eye out for anything suspicious,” Lloyd said.
