Dear Laura,
The Monday, Sept. 22 Centurion newspaper article, “Designated smokers,” addresses the
importance of a collective commitment between all Bucks students and staff about the implications
of “clean-air” and “smoke-free” zones in all three campuses. In addition, I feel that
there are two key factors that need to be addressed by all committee representatives, which are
the promotion of a “quit-smoking campaign” with referrals/resources to those who want to
quit smoking and the creation of a “smoking studies in our community college” by the involvement
of students and faculty, so they can productively explore solutions to the facts and possible
side effects of smoking in our all campuses. Moreover, these suggestions can have promising
opportunities for our community and college, like recruiting volunteers to help in collecting
data and surveys. Overall, our concerns should not be limited to how we are going to set
perimeters to those who smoke but how we all are going to be an “activist” in this process
while it breaths in thin air.
