National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship winner visiting Bucks

National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship winner visiting Bucks

Author, Denise Duhamel, will
be visiting the Newtown campus
on Friday, Oct. 9 to read her most
prized and also some newly released
poems.
Denise Duhamel was born in
Woonsocket, RI in 1961. She received
a B.F.A. degree from
Emerson College in Boston and a
M.F.A. degree from Sarah
Lawrence College in NY.
Duhamel is the author of such
poetry books as “Ka-Ching!”,
and “Queen for a Day.” Other
books include “The Star-Spangled
Banner,” winner of the Crab
Orchard Poetry Prize (1999);
“Kinky” (1997); “Girl Soldier”
(1996); and “How the Sky Fell”
(1996).
Duhamel’s poems deal with issues
of sexual and political identity,
human psychology and
gender issues. One book of
poems, “The Women with Two
Vaginas,” has an erotic theme
and is based on Eskimo mythology.
A winner of the National Endowment
for the Arts Fellowship,
she has been anthologized widely,
including four volumes of “The
Best American Poetry” (2000,
1998, 1994, and 1993).
Aside from publishing literature,
Duhamel also teaches creative
writing and literature at
Florida International University.
She currently lives in Hollywood,
FL.
The event is sponsored by the
Bucks Cultural Affairs Committee
and Department of Language
and Literature. The event will be
held in the Orangery, located between
Penn Hall and Tyler Hall.
